Treasures of the Third Eye: Developing Your Super-Senses by Susan Shumsky

What is your third eye? And how can you open it?

Usually, you physically perceive it with your five senses: sight, taste, smell, touch, and hearing.

But there is a sixth sense, an inner eye that can open the gateway to subtler realms of existence. Developing this inner eye will enable you to view a previously invisible world of multiple dimensions, spiritual planes filled with light, and alternate realities of indescribable wonders. This eye of wisdom, knowledge, illumination, and intuition is aptly named the third eye.

Below we've chosen to share an excerpt from Chapter 8 of our new release Awaken Your Third Eye.

“The common eye sees only the outside of things, and judges by that, but the ‘all seeing eye’ pierces through, and reads the heart and the soul, finding there capacities which the outside didn’t indicate or promise, and which the other kind couldn’t detect.”—Mark Twain

Do you want to open your third eye? Do you want to receive clear intuition and know, for certain, it is real? It is not only possible to do this—anyone can, at will, anytime. Even if everyone claims you are incapable, unworthy, or undeserving to open your third eye, you have the power to do it right now.

You may believe the only individuals worthy to open their third eye are highly evolved spiritual masters who reside in remote monasteries, caves, or ashrams—or great, holy, exalted beings, such as saints, sages, prophets, holy men (I emphasize the word “men”) and other saintly beings who lived at least 2,000 years ago in a faraway land.

Contrary to this idea, I affirm that everyone is born with the ability to listen to the “still small voice” of inner wisdom and to develop innate spiritual gifts. The methods revealed here are simple and easy to master. Anyone can open and develop the inner eye of wisdom, the third eye. You can have direct spiritual experiences and two-way conversations with your inner divine guidance.

The Secret Now Revealed
It might be difficult to imagine opening your third eye. Perhaps you believe that unless you spend decades in serious spiritual study, you do not have a chance of receiving genuine spiritual experiences. But I strongly disagree. You can experience your third eye, and I am going to tell you right now how you can do it.

Here is the big secret, now revealed:

Just sit down in a chair. Close your eyes. Get comfortable, quiet, and still. Take a few deep breaths and let go. Get more quiet. Take some more deep breaths and give up even more. Go deeper. Get even quieter, more centered and balanced. Take more deep breaths and let go. Give up even more. Get into a state of inner peace, relaxation, and deep meditation.

Once you have attained a state of pure serenity, it is time to do something that people generally never do while in a deep state of meditation:

ASK.

Ask Spirit to help you open your third eye. Or ask for a spiritual experience. Ask for a divine being, deity, or being of light to appear. Ask for that being by name. Ask for inner guidance. Or ask for healing, for love, for light, for inspiration. Ask a question.

Then take some more deep breaths and do what I call the “do-nothing program.” That means, do nothing, nothing, and less than nothing. In other words, stay in a neutral state of awareness, without expectation, strain, or concentration. Be open to receive, but without seeking any outcome. Place no effort or exertion into your awareness. Just do nothing.

As you remain in this neutral state, you will receive the outcome you asked for. If you asked to open your third eye, you will receive an experience. If you asked for healing, you will receive healing energy.

If you asked a question, you will receive an answer. Within your heart an answer will come from the deep part of your being that is connected to Spirit. You will see a vision, hear some words, or get a feeling. The message will occur to you, just like any other thought in your mind. You will see it, hear it, or feel it. You will hear the “still small voice” of inner wisdom within.

That is it.

How to experience Spirit in one easy step: “Ask, and it shall be given you.”

Subtle Sense Perception
Any spiritual experience or the answer to any question comes by merely asking for it. It is just that simple. The trouble is we do not realize we can ask, or we do not believe we can receive, or we forget to ask. Just ask, and, according to the promise (“Ask, and it shall be given you”), you will receive. There is nothing you cannot experience or receive. Just ask.

Once you ask, let go and let Spirit give you the result. Do not try to hold onto the question; do not seek the answer. After you have asked, engage in the do-nothing program. In that quiet state of mind, your answer comes.

Messages from divine Spirit appear in one of three basic ways:
1. You might see an inner vision with your inner eye.
2. You may hear an inner voice with your inner ear.
3. You could receive an inner feeling, like a gut feeling.
In other words, you will contact Spirit through one of your subtle senses.

What are “subtle senses”? Usually your senses are projected outward, toward material objects. You see, hear, feel, taste, and smell the pleasures and pains of earthly life. However, during meditation, senses turn inward. In fact, as soon as your eyes close, your outer senses shut down and inner senses take over.

For example, your eyes see the outer world. But with your third eye, you can see the inner world. Your inner eye sees with a subtle sense mechanism that does not normally operate in waking life. However, it is fully active at night as you dream. Through meditation, your subtle senses can be developed.

Every person has one subtle sense developed more than other senses. You might naturally be more visual (seeing), more auditory (hearing), kinesthetic (feeling), gustatory (tasting), or olfactory (smelling).

“Extrasensory perception” is a misnomer. Subtle perceptions are not actually “extrasensory,” since nothing can be perceived without using the senses. It is impossible to experience anything without seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, or feeling it. Your subtle senses are used during ESP experiences, so they are properly called “subtle-sensory” or “supersensory” experiences.

What is it like to use your inner senses? It is rare to see, hear, or feel ESP experiences while engaged in everyday activity. In most cases, these experiences will appear during meditation, with eyes closed.

Clairvoyance
Your subtle sense of sight is called “clairvoyance.” Clair is French for “clear” and voyance for “sight.” By virtue of your gross physical eyes, you can see a rainbow of colors and shapes of objects in your environment. But when you open your inner eye, you receive insight and inner seeing. This might look like a motion picture playing on the inner screen of your mind, also called your “mind’s eye.” Generally, subtle visions appear with eyes closed, rather than open.

Clairaudience
Clairaudience means “clear hearing.” Gross hearing, such as listening to music through headphones, uses your ears. In contrast, subtle auditory messages are usually inaudible. They are rarely heard externally. They seldom sound like someone speaking. More likely they sound just like any other thought, passing through your mind. For example, you might receive the thought: I love you; I am with you always. Whenever words pass through your mind, your inner ear hears them. Thus, the experience is defined as auditory: “clairaudience.”

Clairsentience
Inner gut feelings come kinesthetically through clairsentience, “clear feeling.” You would receive these as feelings in your subtle body, rather than gross feelings of outer sense perception in your physical body. For example, a gross feeling might be a breeze blowing across your face, the warmth of sunshine, or the prick of a bee sting, felt by nerves under your skin. In contrast, here are examples of subtle sense perceptions: You might get a subtle sensing about which direction to take. A feeling of great love or peace may overtake you. The boundaries of your body might seem to dissolve.

How can you receive divine intuitive messages? Ask. That is how. Ask your higher self for a message. Ask for an answer to a question. Ask for healing, for love, for inspiration. Ask to know your true purpose. “Ask, and it shall be given you.”

Clairvoyance, clairaudience, and clairsentience are not the only means to receive intuition. Other ways to get an answer or message from Spirit include: serendipity or coincidence, a flash of insight or direct cognition, revelations in dreams, warning signals, telepathic communication, divine messengers in physical form, and divination or devices.

Although you can receive intuition and communication from Spirit through these other channels, they are not consistent or reliable. Therefore, opening your third eye reigns supreme, because it allows you to get messages anytime you want—at will. And how does that occur? Simply by asking, “Ask, and it shall be given you.”

What if You Do not Receive?

What happens when you try to ask, and you do not appear to get the experience you seek? In such a case, some teachers have been trained to help you get the experience known as the “Divine Revelation® Breakthrough Session.”

Breaking down the wall to the divine presence at the center of your being—that is how you might define the breakthrough. The wall may be made of gossamer for some or brick for others. It consists of habits, beliefs, and thoughts that have convinced you that you are separate from divine Spirit. These thoughts of fear, judgment, guilt, and confusion have coagulated into solid form.

There is a “façade barrier,” “ego-façade,” or “veil of unbelief,” which seems to separate you from God. It is an illusory division between matter and Spirit—a false barrier of error-thoughts that cuts you off from your true nature. This veil of subconscious beliefs prevents you from experiencing Spirit, from opening your third eye, and from developing your natural intuitive abilities. This façade-wall is not designed by God, but by human free will, which builds a wall of illusory thoughts so crystallized that they become “things.” Your habitual thoughts can get so deeply entrenched that they become defensive armors covering your clear, radiant, true self.

With this protective façade-covering, you could feel so comfortable and secure in old habits that you have no incentive to change. You may resist healing old fears and worn-out beliefs. This barrier is made of memories stored in your subconscious mind. These memories comprise your ego identity—who you think you are. Who-you-think-you-are and who-you-really-are, most likely, are two different things. For you probably identify yourself as your limited ego based on past history.

“Breaking through” means walking through the façade barrier and experiencing who you really are. When you have your breakthrough, the divine self that you contact is so different from your ordinary human self that you might think it is another person! But this perfect spiritual being is the real you, the true self beyond boundaries.

When you lift above false human beliefs and penetrate the barrier, you return to a state of pure innocence—the original divine being you were intended to be, living in paradise, heaven on earth. At that moment you are one with Spirit and your own love-nature. You find no limitation, fear, frustration, and confusion there—only peace, love, truth, and wisdom.

Each time you break through your ego-façade and experience the true nature of your being, you identify more deeply with your divine self. By contacting your higher self daily, you gradually develop a rapport and a deeper identification with it. Eventually the day dawns when you come to the realization,

“I AM that oneness, I AM that wholeness, I AM that God-being. THAT is who I AM!”
